The members of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago, invite you to join us for a special Gratitude Service as we prepare for our rebuilding project. We celebrate with joy the establishment of our church, acknowledge with love our legacy, and go forward with new understanding of the spiritual idea of church and the way it is made manifest in our lives and the life of our community. This Gratitude Service will include readings chosen for the occasion from our Pastor, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, music performed by our musicians, and lots of hymns as we lift up our voices in praise! The rebuilding project will refurbish our building, originally built in 1899, repurpose some of our property to better to serve our present needs, and continue to serve our community. Second Church of Christ, Scientist will take on a new shape that will include some of the old and some of the new. Throughout the process we will continue holding services online with the expectation of eventually adding an in-person option at the church’s Reading Room on Clark Street. “The praiseworthy success of this church, and its united efforts to build an edifice in which to worship the infinite, sprang from the temples erected first in the hearts of its members — the unselfed love that builds without hands, eternal in the heaven of Spirit. God grant that this unity remain, and that you continue to build, rebuild, adorn, and fill these spiritual temples with grace, Truth, Life, and Love.” Mary Baker Eddy, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany |
